About the ISA

ISA Status

The International Sweeteners Association (ISA) is a non-profit making organisation registered under Belgian law representing manufacturers and industrial users of low-calorie sweeteners in the preparation of calorie-reduced foods, beverages and table-top sweeteners.

The ISA is recognised by the European Commission, national and international regulatory authorities, and the World Health Organisation, and has Non-Government Observer status with the Codex Alimentarius Commission which establishes international food standards.

ISA Mission

It is ISA’s objective to foster the acceptance, growth and development of low-calorie sweeteners used in the manufacture of calorie-reduced foods, beverages and table-top products. ISA is committed to accurate, unbiased and complete reporting on low-calorie sweeteners.

ISA Role

ISA works towards optimal legislation for all low-calorie sweeteners and the harmonisation of regulations governing their use. The scope of ISA is international, with a focus on the European Union.

ISA constantly monitors media and governmental affairs throughout Europe and the rest of the world and actively fosters the exchange of scientific information among national authorities and the scientific and health professions.

ISA is committed to enhancing public awareness and understanding of the role of low-calorie sweeteners in a modern, balanced diet. ISA is a central source of information for national and European regulators, science groups, health organisations, media and consumers.

ISA participates in and organises seminars and conferences on low-calorie sweeteners and related topics. In 1999, together with IUFoST, ISA organised a World Conference on low-calorie sweeteners from which proceedings are still available.
